PROGRAMS
Each of the following programs include music that is family-oriented and participatory.
NOTE
TO LIBRARIES/SCHOOLS: Yurtfolk travel with specific book titles
for their programs and will refer to them during
presentations. Libraries and schools are encouraged to pull books in
appropriate subject
areas in order to create a book display for the event.
Programs can be presented in Spanish/English.
-
Yurtfolk: Unplugged
-
A program that encourages folks to unplug
themselves from their TVs,computers, phones, etc. and plug in
to their own creativity and imaginations! This program includes music,
movement, creativity, and some drama and improvisation. Great for any age group!
- The Water is Wide

- Explore
water through stories, songs and interactive experiments that may
seem a bit magical. Learn how water affects our local and global
community from the largest of oceans to the smallest of raindrops.
- Songs and Stories of Simplicity
- Yurtfolk
share music and stories that celebrate the joys, struggles and benefits
of living simply. Come share, sing, listen, ask questions and
brainstorm! Bring your voices and instruments if you wish--we may close
with a community sing-along!
Yurtfolk is open to tailoring programs to specific needs/themes.
Celebrating the 2012 National Summer Reading Theme of
"Dream Big, Read!"
We'll
be sure to provide you with a
list of books we bring and refer to during the performance, as well as
other theme-connected books that could fit in with a book display for
check-out
following the program!
- Song and Storytime Around the Campfire (indoors or outdoors, day or night!)
- Gather around for an hour of fun campfire
sing-a-longs, stories, rounds, and space for creating your own lyrics!
Help sing and act out the story of how a little boy used music to save
his town (Abiyoyo). Sing about why dark socks are the best socks to take camping! Help
tell the Bear Hunt story forwards and backwards. Hear a story about the
night sky as the campfire burns down. NOTE: If the program
is held indoors, then we will provide the simulated campfire, and when
outdoors (and if a real "live" campfire is preferred) then we ask the
library to set that up.
- The Dreamer, The Tree, and Me
- Learn the stories of other children who have not only had
dreams, but have found ways to make them happen! Through
movement and music, Yurtfolk features the story/song about a dreamer
who
plants the seed of a date tree that takes 80 years to bear fruit to be
enjoyed for future generations--an important message to sprouts young
and old! We'll celebrate dreams of other people and places
with an interactive program of dance, stories, and song.
OTHER SUMMER PROGRAM THEMES USED BY LIBRARIES in 2012: "READING IS SO DELICIOUS!"
- Dancing and Dining Around the World!
- follows the interactive song/story/dance format of "Around the World with Yurtfolk"
while serving up a feast of fun surrounding food and culture around the
world. Yurtfolk will help us to devour the ingredients that await us
when we pour ourselves into a variety of books! Explore a tale
with food as a main character. Try to take a few steps with a
panadero's (bread baker's) hat full of bread and learn some music and
tradition behind it! Explore the ways other cultures eat. Sing a song about hot chocolate and learn about the
Aztecs. And we'll move beyond human and imagine eating like an animal. Celebrate these
delicious morsels with music, movement, and more while representing
these fun items on our menu!
